Victoria, British Columbia (07/18/2019) – Today BYD (Build Your Dreams), the world’s largest electric vehicle maker, saluted the commitment to climate leadership by governments and municipalities across Canada.
“We applaud today’s announcement in British Columbia and commend the funders behind this forward-looking initiative. The investment today by the Government of Canada and the Government of British Columbia will support communities and help the environment. It’s this type of climate leadership and investment in zero-emissions public transportation across Canada that led BYD, the world’s largest electric vehicle maker, to open an assembly facility in Canada,” Bobby Hill, Vice President BYD Coach and Bus, said Thursday. “This announcement reaffirms the country’s stature as a world leader in reducing harmful emissions and makes us proud of our decision to come here.”
In June, BYD expanded its North American operations with the opening of its first bus assembly plant in Canada.
While the Newmarket,Ontario facility is BYD’s first Canadian assembly plant, the company is already active in the Canadian market with buses on order (or in operation) in Toronto, Vancouver, Longeuil, St. Albert and Grand Prairie. The new plant will first focus on assembling buses for the Toronto Transit Commission, the country’s largest transit operator. The agency will receive ten pure electric buses with an option for 30 more.
